"Boden said the society's intent has been to work with the other animal advocates in a collaborative way, but she said their goal is to replace the Humane Society as the beneficiary of the Crume trust. She said the society has worked out a plan with the attorney general that will have the society solvent by mid-2006."
This HSI official's comment is blatant misinformation.
Anyone who has followed the efforts of this animal coalition's genuine objection to the collateralization of the Crume Trust knows that our goal is to protect this Trust from being used for deficit spending (which would be contrary to Mrs. Crume's wishes) and consequently extinguished at the hand of reckless stewardship.
HSI has a well-defined record of careless management of its millions of dollars treasury because of scandalous adventures. Defaulting on a loan using this public charitable trust as collateral (that should not be allowed in the first place) will relinquish 90% of the trust to the lending institution, National City Bank. It can assured that National City will NOT be using the money to go to the relief of animals. Interesting is that the new HSI treasurer is also a National City Vice President.
As HSI continues to mislead the public AND the Attorney General with false information and eventually cease to exist, the trust should remain intact for other organizations to oversee for the relief of animals in central Indiana. Our position is that this Mary Powell Crume Public Charitable Trust, designated for the relief of animals, should be protected with vigilance.
This is a far cry from, "...their goal is to replace the Humane Society as the beneficiary of the Crume trust."
